Windows Server Management Eliminates Unplanned Downtime for Precision Manufacturer

Unplanned downtime reduced from 18 hours/month to 0 — zero unplanned outages in 12 months. We delivered this outcome for UK Precision Engineering Group (160 users across 2 factories) by combining Windows Server, Active Directory, Patch Management into a single strategic engagement.
What UK Precision Engineering Group was facing
A UK precision engineering manufacturer was losing an average of 18 hours per month to unplanned Windows Server downtime — each hour costing approximately £4,200 in lost production time, delayed shipments, and idle staff. Their servers were unpatched, Active Directory was messy with stale accounts and excessive admin rights, Group Policy was inconsistent, and backups had never been tested. Over 12 months, unplanned downtime had cost them £907,000 in lost production. They needed a proactive Windows Server management partner who could stabilise their environment, prevent failures, and keep their 24/7 production lines running.
How we solved it
We implemented a comprehensive Windows Server management programme starting with a full infrastructure assessment. We redesigned their Active Directory structure with proper OU hierarchy, implemented least-privilege access with separate admin accounts, and applied Microsoft Security Baselines via Group Policy. We deployed automated patch management with staged rollout rings — testing in a pilot group before production deployment — and configured 24/7 monitoring of all servers with alerting tuned to catch issues before they cause downtime. We also implemented and tested backup and disaster recovery with Azure Backup, achieving a 45-minute recovery time objective. A dedicated engineer visits both factories monthly for health checks and preventative maintenance.
